Founded in 2022 by Dana Bauer, Seeable was inspired by Dana’s son Nico, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Mixed Expressive and Receptive Language Disorder in October of 2016. After her son’s diagnosis, Dana became more involved in the special needs community, working alongside various specialists, therapists, and organizations, such as Tobii Dynavox, Reach for Speech, L.L.C., Western Pennsylvania Psychiatric Care, and others. Discussions with specialists and parents in the community introduced her to Gestalt Language Processing and ways to support individuals who not only learn language in this manner, but those individuals who require pictures and visuals to better understand the world around them.
A chance trip to Disney World in the spring of 2022 inspired Dana to take action. As Dana struggled to find visuals in real time to help explain to her son what various experiences in the park would bring, she realized the need for access to videos for individuals like her son. To ensure individuals would have access to supports that were research backed, Dana decided these videos would be created with the input of licensed specialists to ensure that they were helpful and therapeutic in nature. Shortly after this trip, Seeable was born.
